LSU softball wins series with Kentucky

Thanks to a five-run fifth inning by Kentucky they defeated LSU 7-5 Friday night at John Cropp Stadium in the opening game of their series. Going into the inning Kentucky was down by two runs but with the help of a grand slam and a solo home run took the game lead and win.
LSU’s Ali Kilponen took the loss after giving up four runs, three earned, on six hits in 4.2 innings of work. Kentucky’s Grace Baalman got the win in 2.2 innings of relief work.
The two teams were supposed to meet again on Saturday but rain caused that game to be moved to Sunday and make it a doubleheader day.
Things went better for LSU on Sunday with LSU taking both ends of the doubleheader, 10-7 and 10-4, played at John Cropp Stadium to get the weekend series win over Kentucky.
Shelby Sunseri earned the win for the Tigers in seven innings of work in game one. Sunseri gave up seven runs, five earned, on seven hits in her winning effort. Ali Kilponen earned the win for the Tigers in game two after entering in relief in the first inning. Kilponen pitched 6.2 innings and allowed just one run on three hits.
LSU gets to return home after nine straight games on the road May 1-3 with a series against SEC-leading Arkansas. The Tigers went 6-3 during their road trip with three series wins.
